It is necessary for students to meet certain criteria to be eligible to go on the trip. These standards ensure the educational quality of the trip and the safety of all students.
Trip Website Information
The trip website is now live! Please visit ericaesslinger.weebly.com to find all information related to the trip and to register online.
Procedures for Registration (Also Found on the Trip Website)
Step 1: Review Parent/Guardian Informational Letter found on the D.C. trip website.
Step 2: Register using the link to the registration form on the D.C. trip website or turn in a printed copy
by picking up one in the HMS front office.
Just because you register online does not mean you have completed all steps of the registration
process! Please see Steps 3-5 for other documentation needed for your child to participate. Steps 3-
5 contain forms that need to be filled out and turned in with your deposit.
Step 3: Sign the Permission Slip/Medical and Movie Consent Form
*The Permission Slip/Medical and Movie Consent form MUST be turned in at the time you turn in
your deposit of $140.
Step 4: Return Signed Permission Slip AND Deposit of $140 (only if paying in person) to Holly Schmidt in
the HMS Front Office
*CASH, CHECKS, and MONEY ORDERS are accepted (Checks and money orders made payable to
Hopewell Middle School)
Step 5: Medical Forms (Should be Turned in with Permission Slip and Deposit to the HMS Front Office)
*There are two different forms that can be turned in. Please see the D.C. trip website for more
information.
*Students who already have prescription medications on file in the school clinic are able to use their
existing forms and medications. We will gather the correct forms from the clinic and send them on
the trip with students the day of the trip.
Possible Itinerary
Each bus will have the same basic tour of D.C. The buses will not be staying together for the majority of the events due to the times on the tickets for some of the tours.
- Trip Dates: Wednesday, May 9 to Saturday, May 12, 2018
- October 13, 2017 – Deposit of $140 (payable online or in person), Permission Slip, and any Medical Forms Due to Holly Schmidt in the HMS Front Office
- November 10, 2017 – Second Payment of $140 Due to Holly Schmidt in the HMS Front Office
- January 19, 2018 – Third Payment of $140 Due to Holly Schmidt in the HMS Front Office
- February 16, 2018 – Fourth Payment of $140 Due to Holly Schmidt in the HMS Front Office
- May 9, 2018– Buses Leave Before School for the Trip
- May 12, 2018– Buses Arrive Back from Trip in the Evening
Trip Costs
- $560 - Wednesday, May 9 to Saturday, May 12, 2018
- $59 – Full trip refund option (in addition to the cost of the trip)
Refund Guidelines
- There will be no refunds of trip deposits after we pay the deposit invoice to NationsClassroom (Expected deposit date: End of November/Early December) with the exception of choosing to pay the trip full refund option (noted above).
- 60 to 90 days prior to the trip you will receive a refund of all monies paid to date, minus the deposit.
- 30 to 60 days prior to the trip you will receive a refund of half (50%) of all monies paid to date, minus the deposit, if the student’s parent or guardian removes the student from the trip. If the school has reason to remove your student from the trip for academic or behavior purposes, you will receive a refund of all monies paid to date, minus the deposit.
- 30 days prior to the trip there will be no refunds, as HMS will have already paid the invoice in full to NationsClassroom.
Academic and Behavior Requirements

- Academic Requirements: The academic performance of a student should reflect a positive effort. The team and special area teachers directly involved in the student’s instructional program will verify the student’s effort.
- Conduct Requirements: The conduct of the student should demonstrate that s/he is a responsible individual and must comply with the school’s rules and policies. An ISS or OSS can result in ineligibility.
- Final Decision: The administration of the school reserves the right to make the final decision about the eligibility of the student.

1. Requisitos Académicos: El rendimiento académico de un estudiante debe reflejar un esfuerzo positivo. El equipo y los maestros de áreas especiales que estén directamente involucrados en el programa de instrucción del estudiante, verificarán el esfuerzo del mismo.
2. Requisitos de Conducta: La conducta del estudiante debe demostrar que él/ella es un individuo responsable y debe cumplir con las reglas y normas de la escuela. Un ISS u OSS puede resultar en inelegibilidad.
3. Decisión Final: La administración de la escuela se reserva el derecho de tomar la decisión final sobre la elegibilidad del estudiante.

Cada autobús tendrá el mismo tour básico de D.C. Los autobuses no se quedarán juntos para la mayoría de los eventos debido a la hora en los boletos para algunos de los tours.

- 13 de octubre 2017 – Depósito de $140 (pagado en persona o en línea), Formulario de Permiso, y cualquier Formulario Médico debe ser entregado a Holly Schmidt en las oficinas de HMS
